La plupart de ces immigr\u00e9s \u00e9taient les juifs pers\u00e9cut\u00e9s en Europe, en qu\u00eate d&#8217;un avenir meilleur aux USA. D&#8217;autres immigr\u00e9s arrivaient aux Etats Unis pour fuir la pauvret\u00e9, la guerre, etc&#8230; Ellis Island a ferm\u00e9 en 1954, mais a \u00e9t\u00e9 restor\u00e9 dans les ann\u00e9es 1980. Depuis 1990, Ellis Island a rouvert et <strong>il est possible de visiter Ellis Island, aussi appel\u00e9 le mus\u00e9e de l&#8217;immigration, afin de d\u00e9couvrir le processus d&#8217;accueil des Il fallait monter des escaliers pour y aller, et les m\u00e9decins inspectaient d\u00e9j\u00e0 les passagers : Ont-ils du mal \u00e0 monter les escaliers? Est-ce qu&#8217;ils toussent? Est-ce qu&#8217;ils boitent? Ceux avec un X \u00e0 la craie sur leur veste devaient passer un test mental. La plupart s&#8217;en sortait sans souci.
